Romas 6:15-23

Believers are freed from the power of sin and now live under the gracious lordship of Christ, bearing fruit of righteousness from the heart.

Introduction

Two masters, two kinds of life. Consider who or what currently calls the shots in your week.

Christ breaks the old master’s rule and invites us into a new, life-giving mastery.

License Mindset (Romans 6:15–16)

Facing Romans 6:15–16, name the common temptation plainly: “If grace abounds, can I keep sinning and still be okay?” Paul answers with clarity: grace does not license sin; it frees us to live rightly. Real freedom is not license but submission to a better master. Our identity as slaves to Christ should shape how we live this week.

New Master, New Life (Romans 6:17–18)

Conversion is described: when Jesus changes the heart, obedience follows—not as rigid rule-keeping but as a discernible desire to walk in newness of life. Transformation is interior, yet it manifests in daily living. Ask: where does your heart need renewed surrender to Christ today?

Payoff of the New Master (Romans 6:19, 21–23)

The contrast : slavery to sin yields death; slavery to God yields righteousness and eternal life. An image helps the truth land: whatever master we serve, we become its instruments. Consider what you are offering yourself to this week, and recall the gift of God—eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Application

Adopt a simple daily routine: yield to the Spirit, renew your mind, and serve others. Let gratitude for Christ’s freedom propel steady, faithful obedience.

The truth remains: you are not under sin’s dominion but under grace. For believers, name one concrete step this week—confession, accountability, or a fresh spiritual discipline. For those not yet surrendered to Christ, consider inviting Him to be Master over your life.
